The profession of landscape architecture can be described as the planning, design, and management of the built and natural environments we live in. Whatever their career path, landscape architects are important players in the development, management, and preservation of our natural and cultural resources.
Landscape architects do it all, from the design of the smallest backyard, to the planning and design of the largest corporate headquarters; from the redevelopment of a public space in a major metropolitan downtown, to the long term planning of a park system for an entire city; from the planning and management of new development in a small city's planning office, to the cooperative management of vast tracts of forest land and wilderness in a federal agency office.
My own experiences meld the theoretical and technical elements of a professional landscape architecture education, teaching and mentoring at the university level, and the realities of the practice of landscape architecture, planning, and project management in the world of new residential and commercial development.

The projects showcased here are as diverse as the profession of landscape architecture itself. From the microcosm of a small yard to the vast expanses of an entire region, these projects represent the breadth of my skillset, experience and interest.

Landscape architecture and the craft of brewing share similarities. Conceptually, both involve understanding and manipulating ingredients to produce complex and unique results.

Landscape architects should be concerned with the delicate balance between:
The combination of these ingredients offers myriad design solutions, but just like the world's traditional, regionally distinct brews, a design solution’s complexities should always reflect a strong expression of region and community.
Ultimately, good planning and design, like good brew, should bring pleasure and satisfaction to its users. This is how BALANCE IS CRAFTED.
